Move one topic into the same forum as the other and then merge the topics.

If the topics are large or you fear messing up, copy both topics (say into an Admin forum) and perform the merge on the copied topics. If you are happy with the result, you can then move the copy out and pull the originals into the private forum.

If you want to leave a shadow from one forum to another, simply move the merged topic, leaving a shadow. This then leaves you one topic, with a link to it from two (or more) forums.

All easily done using the topic tools.

for some reason i can not find how to leave a shadow.
well i found it but i am not sure what i want to do.
there will be more posts added in time to that thread.
i don't want two of the same threads in a forum.

so if i combine them , i would need to do it again as new posts are added?

since my brain can't decide i decided to leave a link to the topic in the other forum.
i can't think while someone is over my shoulder.
i will leave your directions in the mods so that another admin can decide if they want to change what i decided.

again, thank you :)

Simple.

You MOVE one topic into the same forum as the other.
You MERGE these topics.
You then MOVE that topic into the OTHER forum. In the process of this, you make sure that that "leave a shadow topic" (or whatever the wording it) is checked.

ONE topic: TWO links to it.

Tip: If that is your intention, perform the initial merge in the forum you do NOT want the topic to live in. (not necessary but cuts down on moves)

(If someone could help out with the exact wording on the confirmation page, that would be extremely helpful.)

i ended up moving one topic to the other forum where the already there topic was and merged them.
i was afraid i was going to make a boo boo but it all came out fine.
the forum i did not merge will be the forum the topic won't stay in after other posts.
right now its pinned so it won't move but it will be unpinned in time.
i will look up the exact wording on that shadow.

when you are going to move one topic from one forum to another forum there is a
choice to "Leave a link to new location"

If you are concerned about making a mistake, make copies first (see my first reply).

"Leave a link to new location" leaves a placeholder link (shadow) to the moved topic. This is worthwhile, so people can find the new topic and not think the old one has been removed. In time though, these are best removed (say when they hit page 2).
